The best time to listen to a new CD is in my car. When I am driving somewhere, I have found out that it is the absolute best time to enjoy a new CD. My theory is that in this mode, I have completely no expectations. The purpose of driving my car is to get from point A to point B. What I do with the time in between is less important than achieving this goal. The other aspect being the constantly changing environment. The environment changes depending on where I am driving. I am often driving to distinctly different places while listening to various CDs. So there are no emotions evoked from being in a familiar place - a new environment offers a fresh clean slate. These two factors have allowed me to completely leave behind any expectations of the music and truly enjoy it for what it is. For this reason, I will miss my car when I am in Buenos Aires.

MP3 players doesn’t do justice since nothing really beats open air sound quality when enjoying music. Ear buds - bad, open air - good :)

It recently occurred to me that my best drawing and most creative pieces of artwork are done when I am on the phone. Since I had cancelled my cell phone when I took a sabbatical in Argentina, I have been using the phone booths here at work to make personal calls. Most of my phone numbers are written on a book which I take with me to the phone booths. During long conversations, I tend to simultaneously draw things without being completely aware of what I am drawing or having any intention to specifically create anything. There seems to be another part of my mind untapped which takes over, while I am complete involved in a conversation and this part of the mind draws. The things it creates are absolutedly astounding. It is simply amazing what you can create when you are not focus on creating anything in particular, but just letting your inner self create & express itself. Interesting…
